La réponse courte
According to Xplor Pay's October 2026 network notice, Visa introduces an Embedded Payments Acquirer Charge on October 23, 2026: 0.10% (10 basis points) on eligible Visa Commercial Solutions virtual card transactions. It applies to virtual accounts provisioned through Visa's Embedded Payments integrations in business applications such as ERP, accounting or procurement software used for business-to-business payments. Visa charges it to acquirers; your processor decides how it reaches you. Ask whether any of your payments qualify, whether the charge shows as its own line, and whether it is passed through at cost.
What Visa is adding
In its October 2026 association updates, published October 9 and updated October 12, Xplor Pay said that effective October 23, 2026, Visa will introduce a new Acquirer Embedded Payment charge for acquirers processing qualifying embedded payment transactions. Xplor Pay lists it as a 0.10% (10 basis points) Embedded Payments Acquirer Charge applied to eligible Visa Commercial Solutions (VCS) virtual card transactions. It describes the charge as a Visa-mandated association charge, not a processor fee. On a $10,000 invoice paid this way, 0.10% is $10.
Which payments it applies to
Xplor Pay says an embedded payment transaction is identified based on the use of virtual accounts provisioned through Visa's Embedded Payments integrations from business applications, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), accounting, procurement or other software, used for business-to-business payments. In plain terms: your customer's accounts payable or procurement system creates a virtual Visa commercial card number to pay your invoice, through Visa's embedded integration. A customer paying with a plastic corporate card at your counter, or a consumer card online, is not what this charge describes.
Who should pay attention
Suppliers that get paid by other businesses: wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers, software and service firms, logistics, maintenance and facilities contractors. If your accounts receivable team regularly receives virtual card numbers by email or through a supplier portal, some of those payments may come from embedded integrations. Businesses that sell mostly to consumers are unlikely to see this charge.
Why your pricing model matters
On interchange-plus pricing, network charges should be passed through at cost and shown separately from your processor's markup, so a 0.10% embedded payments line is visible and you can check it against Visa's charge. On a flat rate or tiered pricing, network charges are blended in. A new charge may be absorbed, may push some payments into a higher tier, or may be used to justify a rate change. Commercial card payments already carry higher interchange than most consumer cards, so this is one more reason B2B sellers look closely at how they are priced.
Three questions for your processor
1. Were any of my transactions identified as embedded payments since October 23, and how many? 2. Does the Embedded Payments Acquirer Charge show as its own line, or is it bundled into another fee? 3. Is it passed through at Visa's 0.10%, or marked up? Ask for the answers in writing, along with a statement that shows network charges by name.
What changes for mid-size and enterprise suppliers
Larger suppliers often receive a meaningful share of revenue through virtual cards from big customers' AP platforms. Ask your processor for a monthly report of embedded payment volume and the charge applied, by merchant account. Make sure the enhanced data you send with commercial card payments is complete, because commercial card interchange can depend on it. Check that your contract passes network charges through at cost and says how new charges are notified. And for your largest customers, compare the full card cost, including this charge, with bank transfer options they can use. Canadian suppliers should note that Xplor Pay's notice is a US processor's notice; ask your own processor whether and when the charge applies to your account.
