CELER Merchants vs Moneris

CELER Merchants is an independent agent, not a processor: we make the providers we work with compete for your account, and the service costs you $0. Moneris is a payments provider, and we found no processing rates on the pages we read. This page sets out what Moneris says on its own site, where it is strong, and where an agent can help.

What Moneris is

Moneris is a Canadian payments provider. Its home page says it has been powering commerce across the country for 25 years, is "backed by two Canadian banks (BMO and RBC)", and counts 325,000+ points of commerce and 5 billion+ transactions every year (Moneris data, 2025). Financier Worldwide reports that RBC and BMO have agreed to sell Moneris to Francisco Partners in a transaction valued at approximately C$2bn, expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2027, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Where Moneris is strong

  • A stated market position. Moneris states it is Canada's #1 merchant acquirer, citing the Nilson Report (October 2025, Issue 1294). This is Moneris's own claim and we have not independently verified it.
  • Product range. Moneris lists the Moneris Go Terminal, Moneris Go Retail POS, Moneris Go Restaurant POS and Moneris Total Commerce, plus Tap to Pay on Android with the Moneris Go app.
  • Support. Moneris says its bilingual support team is available 24/7.
  • Rental model. Moneris's current promotion (valid 4 August to 2 December 2026) refers to monthly rental fees for select solutions, so ask whether any terminal or POS is rented rather than bought.

What CELER Merchants is

We do not process payments and we do not hold your money. We read your statement, name every fee (usually within 4 hours), then take your profile to the providers we work with and show you every offer that comes back. You choose. The provider you choose pays us, so the service costs you $0. CELER Merchants is an independent agent and referral partner, not a processor.

Contract and equipment terms

Moneris's home page publishes no processing rates, monthly fees or contract terms. The promotion mentioned above carries conditions, including a minimum credit card volume within 90 days, set out in Moneris's own terms.

Where an agent can help

  • Reading what you pay today. Send a statement and we name every fee and work out your effective rate (total fees divided by total card volume).
  • Shopping more than one provider. Moneris will quote you Moneris. We take the same statement to several providers and bring the offers back side by side.
  • Negotiating and checking the paper. Rates, monthly fees, equipment terms and exit terms are what we ask for in writing before you sign.

Which fits you?

Because Moneris does not publish processing rates on the pages we read, the only reliable way to compare is against your own numbers. Ask Moneris for a written quote and compare it with your effective rate. Our statement analysis does that comparison for you, and the savings calculator gives a first estimate in about a minute. We are happy to tell you when your current pricing is already good.
