CELER Merchants vs PayPal

CELER Merchants is an independent agent, not a processor: we make the providers we work with compete for your account, and the service costs you $0. PayPal is a payments provider, and it publishes some of its pricing. This page sets out what PayPal says on its own site, where it is strong, and where an agent can help.

What PayPal, Braintree and Zettle is

PayPal publishes separate fee pages for the United States and Canada. PayPal's US point-of-sale page says "PayPal Zettle is now PayPal Point of Sale", and its Braintree page says "Braintree is now PayPal Enterprise Payments". Sources: PayPal point-of-sale page and PayPal US fees page, checked 1 Nov 2026.

Where PayPal is strong

  • Published rates. Both the US and Canadian fee pages carry a "last updated" date and list rates by product.
  • No long-term commitment on POS. The US point-of-sale page says there are no monthly fees, startup fees or long-term commitments, only a transaction fee when you make a sale.
  • Phone-based acceptance. The same page describes accepting digital wallets and contactless cards using only a phone and the PayPal POS app.

What CELER Merchants is

We do not process payments and we do not hold your money. We read your statement, name every fee (usually within 4 hours), then take your profile to the providers we work with and show you every offer that comes back. You choose. The provider you choose pays us, so the service costs you $0. CELER Merchants is an independent agent and referral partner, not a processor.

PayPal figures are taken from PayPal US fees page (last updated 1 Oct 2026) as of 1 Nov 2026. Canadian figures come from PayPal's Canadian fees page (last updated 13 October 2026). We could not confirm that PayPal Point of Sale is sold in Canada: the Canadian fees page we read has no in-person section. PayPal says volume discounts may be available to qualified merchants. Prices change: check the provider's page and your own agreement before you decide.

Contract and equipment terms

Equipment lease and PCI fee terms were not published on the pages we read; PayPal's US POS page says there are no long-term commitments.

Where an agent can help

  • Reading what you pay today. Send a statement and we name every fee and work out your effective rate (total fees divided by total card volume).
  • Shopping more than one provider. PayPal will quote you PayPal. We take the same statement to several providers and bring the offers back side by side.
  • Negotiating and checking the paper. Rates, monthly fees, equipment terms and exit terms are what we ask for in writing before you sign.

Which fits you?

If PayPal's published pricing and features suit your business, staying can be the right call. Compare the rate you see above with your own effective rate; the published rate is a starting point, not a quote for your account. Our statement analysis does that comparison for you, and the savings calculator gives a first estimate in about a minute. We are happy to tell you when your current pricing is already good.
