TouchBistro vs Toast

TouchBistro publishes a starting monthly price with clear footnotes; Toast publishes almost nothing about recurring cost. Neither publishes a processing rate. TouchBistro tends to fit smaller and mid-sized full-service restaurants comfortable reading detailed contract terms; Toast tends to fit operations that want deeper built-in floor and kitchen tooling and will go through a full sales process to get figures in writing.

Choose TouchBistro if

  • You want a published starting price to anchor a conversation, even though hardware and processing are quoted separately.
  • You run a smaller or mid-sized full-service restaurant and are comfortable reading detailed terms of service — particularly the 30-day renewal notice window and the Default Amount clause — before you sign.
  • You need hardware financing and have two or more terminals to qualify.

Choose Toast if

  • You run a larger or more complex full-service operation and want deeper native kitchen-display and floor-management tooling.
  • You are prepared to go through a full sales process with no published starting price, in exchange for a system built specifically around restaurant floor operations.
  • You want 0% hardware financing as part of the deal, subject to approval.

Processing rates: both fixed, and both attach real teeth to leaving early

Neither TouchBistro nor Toast publishes a processing rate, and both bundle payments into the deal — TouchBistro through its Essentials Bundle, Toast as the default across its whole offering. Neither documents a path to run an outside processor without asking directly. TouchBistro is more transparent about what happens if you leave: its terms of service define a specific Default Amount, including the processing fees that would have been payable over the rest of the term, and describe it explicitly as liquidated damages. Toast publishes no equivalent figure on its pricing or terms pages, so that number has to be requested and confirmed in writing. Because processing is locked to the vendor on both systems, an independent agent's leverage is in getting the rate and the exit cost fully documented before signing — not in shopping the rate afterward, which neither platform's public terms support.

What to get in writing before choosing either

  1. The full processing rate — percentage and per item, by card type and channel — since neither publishes one.
  2. TouchBistro's Initial Term in months and the date 31 days before it expires, written into a calendar the day you sign.
  3. Toast's early termination amount as an actual figure, since no equivalent clause is published the way TouchBistro's Default Amount is.
  4. Whether hardware on either system is bought, rented, or financed separately, and the name of that agreement.
  5. Whether any incentive or discount is attached to the deal, since on TouchBistro that feeds directly into the Default Amount if you default.

Price both against your own last three months of card volume rather than a brochure figure — the free statement analysis does that arithmetic, and our restaurant payment processing page covers the tip-handling and downgrade-ladder detail specific to hospitality.

Related questions

TouchBistro publishes a starting monthly price; Toast does not. TouchBistro's pricing page, checked 17 September 2026, opens at $89 a month for point of sale or $99 a month for its Essentials Bundle, both asterisked for hardware and processing. Toast publishes no monthly software price at all. Neither publishes a processing rate, which is usually the largest recurring cost for a restaurant.

Neither publishes one. TouchBistro's pricing page, checked 17 September 2026, names integrated payments as part of its Essentials Bundle but gives no percentage or per-transaction figure. Toast's pricing page states only that hardware and implementation vary by package, with no processing rate published.

TouchBistro's terms of service define a Default Amount payable if TouchBistro terminates for merchant default: repayment of any incentive received, all software licence and hardware fees, and other amounts including processing fees for the balance of the current term — described in the terms as liquidated damages, not a penalty. Toast's pricing and terms pages, as checked 17 September 2026, do not publish an equivalent named clause; ask for the early termination figure in writing before signing.

TouchBistro tends to fit smaller and mid-sized full-service restaurants that want a lower published starting price and are comfortable reading detailed terms of service for the renewal and default mechanics. Toast tends to fit restaurants — including larger or multi-location operations — that want deeper built-in kitchen and floor tooling and are willing to go through a full sales process to get every figure in writing.
